Top Jacket Buying Tips For UK Summers

Looks like rain…

The UK and especially Scotland is very well known for its changeable weather. You can be a few steps out of the door on a sunny day with not a cloud in the sky when practically out of nowhere you feel rain drops on your skin and within a few minutes more you are amidst a thunderous downpour. Alternatively you might be setting out to work on a frosty morning with double thick tights and a hat. Only by lunch time you are sweating like mad as the frost has disappeared and the sun is raging down and most people are now thinking about getting the sun cream on. It really does happen.

This situation makes jacket choice crucial, especially in the summer as it can be a pain and a lifesaver on the same day as the weather changes by the hour. So what should you look for when buying a jacket for a Scottish summer?

Waterproof

The most important aspect of your jacket should be that it is seriously waterproof. This is because, as mentioned above, it can start raining practically at any second of any day no matter what time of year it is, how blue the skies are and how many days uninterrupted sun you have had up until now. You can choose a synthetic waterproof or a natural leather or waxed waterproof depending on what you like.

Lightweight

If you are out and about in the rain and you blink and it is suddenly basking sunshine you are going to want to take your jacket off. Ideally you could teleport it home to a hook on the back of your door, but until they invent working jacket teleporters you just need to make sure that when you look for a jacket, you go for one that is lightweight and easy to fold up out of the way.

Stylish

While there are plenty of jackets that are lightweight and waterproof, you don't want to be stuck wearing a cagoule on a night out because you will look like a bit of a train spotter. There are many jackets like a Barbour quilted jacket or Lyle and Scott jackets which tread the line between style and functionality nicely.

Pockets

One thing never to be without is a good selection of pockets. If you are going to have a jacket with you most of the time you are going to want to have pockets in it so you have somewhere for all your sun block, hot water bottles, sunglasses, scarves etc. etc…

Sam Qam has a Sessun UK jacket. He is never without his favourite jacket or one of his many Penfield Clothing UK jackets when he goes out in any weather.
